Lighten up (Chickenfoot) (LP 2167 - 2168)

Chickenfoot  Chickenfoot (CD, Edel, 2009) ****

Chickenfoot  III (CD, Edel, 2011) ***

Genrerock

Places I remember: Virgin Megastore (Dubai)

Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: Soap On A Rope (first album)

Gear costume: Get It Up (first album)

Active compensatory factors
: The band is a supergroup comprising Joe Satriano, Chad Smith on loan from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and two Van Halen refugees - Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar.

For once the expectations of a supergroup are fully met. Chickenfoot make a great noise on these two albums (like The Travelin' Wilbury's there was no album #2 - just a playful, silly, album title for their second album).

Also like The Travelin' Wilbury's, that first album is the killer and the second effort, while worthwhile to listen to, is not as good.

Star of the show on both albums is Satch. He's a gifted guitarist - much more to come from him when we eventually reach the S section.

Weak areas: at times they do sound, understandably, a bit too much like Van Halen; and some of Sammy Hagar's lyrics remain pretty cliched shallow paeans to sexy women.

Where do they all belong? Apart from a live album, which I have never come across, that's it. Although, I do have their extraordinary live version of Highway Star on a Deep Purple covers collection.
