Blackpowder orchard (Baroness) (LP 2141 - 2142)

Baroness   Blue Record (CD, Relapse, 2009) ****

Baroness   Purple (CD, Abraxan Hymns, 2015) ****

GenreRock, progressive metal

Places I remember: JB Hi Fi

Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: Morning Star (Purple)

Gear costume: Shock Me (Purple)

Active compensatory factors
: I kinda link Baroness to Pelican and Tool in some ways, in that I can put it on and let it wash over me.

They are three brilliant bands who know what they are about!

I think Purple is the pick of these two albums. It's confident, experimental within the confines of prog metal and extremely convincing in their attack.

Where do they all belong? I don't have a great desire to buy more Baroness albums - I really like what they do but I suspect Purple is a peak so I'm not about to collect more colours (even though that's a super cool idea that Weezer and Baroness execute so well).
