Be-Bop Deluxe Sunburst Finish (CD, Harvest Records, 1976) ****
Genre: Pop rock, art rock
Places I remember: Vinyl Countdown
Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: Ships In The Night
Gear costume: Crying To The Sky
Active compensatory factors: I love Ships In The Night. I think it was a hit in 1976. Maybe this qualifies Be-Bop Deluxe for one-hit-wonder-hood? Probs not because they were an art rock band who flirted with post glam (if there's no such thing as post glam there should be). They therefore would most likely be a little sniffy about the concept of having a hit.

Bill Nelson is, of course, the lead man in B-BD but down these parts we remember the band for having featured the awesome Charlie Tumahai on bass!
As for the rest of the album - it is high class art rock. Bill's guitar work is terrific and the songs twist and turn and evolve nicely. Charlie is a great bassist and shines in this context. Charlie's good tonight inne!
Where do they all belong? Ships In The Night was the high point for me and means I haven't ventured further afield with Be-Bop Deluxe.
