The struggle within (Metallica) (LP 3210)

Metallica  Metallica (CD, Elektra Records, 1991) ****

GenreHeavy Metal

Places I remember: Record Club.

Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: Enter Sandman

Gear costume: Nothing Else Matters

They loom large in his legend (The Album Collection playlists): Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5

Active compensatory factors: When I lived in Nelson next to the Sivak family, I heard a lot of Metallica thanks to Sam Sivak. I particularly liked Ride The Lightning but not enough to buy a copy for myself.

Metallica (a.k.a. The Black Album) however was great enough for me to get a copy. It's more of a hard rock album (that crisp heavy drum sound), although there are remnants of their harder edged material at times (guitar riffs), and it's even an album I've put on during dinner parties (yes, at low volume).

Plenty of great songs, probably now considered 'classics' if such a thing exists in the Book of Heavy Metal.

Where do they all belong? All I've ever needed of Metallica.
