Cool me down (The Black Seeds) (LP 4222 - 4223)

The Black Seeds  Into the Dojo (CD, Capitol Records, 2006) ****

The Black Seeds  Solid Ground (CD, Sonar Kollektiv Records, 2008) ***

GenreNZ Music, reggae

Places I remember: The Hope's collection

Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: One by One (Into the Dojo)

Gear costume: Send a Message (Solid Ground), Cool Me Down (Into the Dojo)

They loom large in his legend
(The Album Collection playlists): Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5Part 6

Active compensatory factors: The Black Seeds are a big (8 members) reggae/funk centric band from Wellington. These are their third and fourth albums.

I wouldn't have known about them without getting a box of CDs from the Hope family (I suspect these were my daughter-in-law Ashleigh's). Their sound is a blend of seventies style rock reggae with a funk attitude.

Of the two I prefer the more instrumental Into the Dojo. Solid Ground ratchets up the funk and has some stabbing horns adding to the drama.

Where do they all belong? A nice pair for lazy sunny afternoons in Nu Zild.
