Oxygene (Jean-Michel Jarre) (LP 2827- 2828)

Jean-Michel Jarre  Oxygene  (CD, Disques Dreyfus, 1976) ***

Jean-Michel Jarre  Equinoxe   (CD, Disques Dreyfus, 1978) ****

Genre: Electronic, ambient, Prog

Places I remember: The Warehouse

Fab, and all the other pimply hyperboles: Oxygene Part 4

Gear costume: Oxygene Part 2

Active compensatory factors
: The French electronics wizard, Jean-Michel Jarre, hit paydirt with his second album, Oxygene, after the singles Oxygene Part 2 and Oxygene Part 4 became hits.

I resisted the appeal during the seventies - synth and electronics wasn't my thing. Guitars. That was my thing.

But I was clearly aware of Oxygene at the time and it gives me a nice nostalgic twinge now to hear this album. It definitely has peaks and troughs, with those two parts the clear standouts.

Equinoxe was his third album, and the one right after Oxygene. It's more of the same really, without the catchy hits.

Where do they all belong?
In truth, I bought Equinoxe before Oxygene thinking it was the Jarre album I remembered from the seventies. When I listened to it I had a 'doh!' reaction and then went out immediately and bought Oxygene proper.
